This is a blog filled with stories about DIY projects. It’s not meant to be a step-by-step instruction library. It doesn’t tell you exactly what to do, which tools to use, or how to approach your projects. In fact, it doesn’t provide instructions at all. This blog tells stories. And if, by chance, any advice slips through the cracks, it’s purely in the form of recommendations. Even the gods wouldn’t dare tell a DIYer what or how they should do things! And certainly, no one here has any intention of bossing you around.
This blog is about stories. Sometimes funny, sometimes serious. Because behind every DIYer’s project lies a story — not a step-by-step instruction. Instructions come later, during the process. And more often than not, they appear after the project is completed. The Internet is full of instructions. They’re dull and give you nothing but practical information.
For instance, imagine you decide to build a new bookshelf for your books. You wouldn’t decide this just because “that’s what the instruction says.” You’d do it because an idea suddenly sparked within you. Maybe the idea arose out of necessity. But necessity alone is rarely enough. To develop a full-fledged idea, necessity needs a companion: inspiration. And only then, inspired by that idea, might you find an instruction helpful — something that specifies exactly how tall your stack of planks should be or the precise angle at which your tool needs sharpening to bring your vision to life.
The primary purpose of this blog is to be a source of that inspiration. And inspiration? It’s like a ghost — fleeting and hard to grasp. Miss it, and no idea will take shape. All you’ll have left are soulless, boring instructions — and an equally dull “just because I have to” project.
Here on this blog, the ghosts of inspiration are captured through stories. And through these stories, we aim to share the inspirations we’ve caught with others. Perhaps those ghosts of inspiration will leap into your own stories, helping you bring your wild, creative projects to life!
Starring:
Author
Most people on the internet know him as JIM. He has extensive knowledge in electronics and programming, paired with hands-on skills across various applied fields of activity. All stories and narratives on this blog are told from his perspective.
Wife
As the Author’s wife, she is inevitably drawn into all his crazy projects — whether she wants to be or not. Often serves as either the initiator or the undertaker of ideas.
Daughter
An uncontrollable force of nature. Occasionally, a destructive storm. A source of chaos and valuable insights into the lives of so-called normal people (whoever they may be).
Dog
The Author’s constant companion in all his projects. A steadfast pillar of confidence in the absolute rightness of everything the Author does.
Cat
Another constant companion of the Author. An inexhaustible source of criticism for absolutely everything the Author does. Occasionally used to test project outcomes for dynamic load resilience.
Friend
A universal entity. The Friend could be anyone. While officially, the Friend’s opinion generally holds no weight, they can sometimes sway the Author’s perspective on specific project details.
Voices in the Head
Perhaps these are the very ghosts of inspiration this blog is dedicated to. They are the true creators and storytellers behind all the tales shared here.
